Da poche ore è comparsa a sorpresa sullo store americano di iTunes Hands (GLAAD/Interscope Records), canzone che vede coinvolti 24 artisti uniti nel rendere omaggio alle vittime della strage di Orlando dello scorso 12 giugno. I proventi del brano, interpretato tra gli altri da Britney Spears, P!nk e Mary J Blige, andranno a favore della Equality Florida Pulse Victims Fund, la LGBT Community Center of Central Florida, e GLAAD, la Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.
“Can hold a gun / And hold your heart […] They can break the world / Or they can change it too”: in questi versi è racchiuso il significato tanto semplice quanto evocativamente potente di Hands, il brano con cui molte star della musica ricordano le giovani vite spezzate del Pulse di Orlando. Con 49 morti e 53 feriti, l’attentato al gay club è stata la più grande sparatoria di massa nella storia americana e il più grave atto di violenza contro la comunità LGBT.
Hands porta la firma di due autori della Warner Chappell, Justin Tranter e Julia Michaels, e di BloodPop® ed è stata prodotta dagli stessi BloodPop® e Justin Tranter con Mark Ronson.
L’idea è stata di Tranter che, scosso dai tragici avvenimenti, il giorno dopo la carneficina ha deciso di aiutare la comunità di Orlando con quel che sa fare meglio: scrivere canzoni (per intenderci, è il co-autore di Sorry di Justin Bieber). Hands però, musicalmente parlando, non ha niente a che vedere con le hit che scalano le classifiche ultimamente: “Non volevamo nessun elemento elettronico che fosse di moda – ha dichiarato Tranter – Volevamo che il pezzo suonasse classico, senza tempo e umano. Vogliamo che questo inno di positività possa essere suonato anche negli anni a venire”.
Ad abbracciare la causa sono stati grandi nomi del panorama pop d’oltreoceano: Mary J Blige, Jason Derulo, Britney Spears, Tyler Glenn, Selena Gomez, Halsey, Ty Herndon, Imagine Dragons, Juanes, Adam Lambert, Mary Lambert, Jennifer Lopez, the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles, Kacey Musgraves, MNEK, Alex Newell, P!nk, Prince Royce, Nate Ruess, RuPaul, Troye Sivan, Jussie Smollett, Gwen Stefani, e Meghan Trainor.
